Artistic Director & Associate Artistic Director:
The Alamo City Men’s Chorale in San Antonio, Texas is seeking an Artistic Director to conduct the Alamo City Mens Choral, and an Associate Artistic Director to conduct a small ensemble called the Alamo City Ensemble Singers. These positions are part-time positions. Both jobs require weekly rehearsals as well as three major concerts throughout the year from September through June. Qualifications
Artistic Director & Associate Artistic Director:
1.College degree, preferably in choral music
2.Direction of male adult volunteer ensembles, with some experience in chorus choreography
3.Adept organizational skills, creativity, punctuality, strategic planning, and dedication to the ACMC purpose: “The mission of the Alamo City Men’s Chorale is to promote an inclusive and diverse musical environment through its repertoire, membership, and audience.”
Job Description Summaries
Artistic Director
The Artistic Director shall be responsible for the following:
1.Planning, preparing and directing the content and performance or all concerts and other musical presentation of the Chorale, devising effective rehearsal techniques, expanding musical knowledge, improving vocal production and helping to maintain a high level of morale among the members of the Chorale.
2.Researching, ordering and retrieving music for all musical presentation of the Chorale and using his/her best efforts to distribute music to the Chorale within a reasonable time for mastery prior to the scheduled concert for which the music is intended.
3.Formulating audition procedures, auditioning and placing new members, re-auditioning former members (if necessary), to insure an adequate number of members in the Chorale. Auditioning and selecting, Principal Pianist, Guest Soloist and any other musicians related to the production of musical presentations of the Chorale
4.Setting rehearsal times and locations and standards of conduct during rehearsals and performances, including control of time and duration of Chorale business during rehearsals and control of all functions at the dress rehearsals.
5.Providing for a substitute Director in the event of illness or other absence.
6.Coordinating and guiding the principal pianist, section leaders, small ensemble director, music librarian, sign-language interpreter and production manager.
7.Having final say on the performance status of a Chorale member.
Associate Artistic Director
1.Planning, preparing and directing the content and performance of the Alamo City Ensemble Singers (ACES), devising effective rehearsal techniques, expanding musical knowledge, improving vocal production and helping to maintain a high level of morale among the members of ACES.
2.Researching, ordering and retrieving music for performances of the ACES. Using his/her best efforts to distribute music to the ACES within a reasonable time for mastery prior to the scheduled concert for which the music is intended.
3.Formulating audition procedures, auditioning and placing new members into the ensemble, to insure an adequate number or members in the ACES.
4.Setting rehearsal times and locations and standards of conduct during rehearsals and performances, including control of the time and duration of ACES/ACMC business during rehearsals.
5.Providing for a substitute director in the event of absence.
6.Having final say on the performance of an ACES member.
