*EXTENDED DEADLINE* ANNOUNCEMENT Workshop: Conducting Beethoven: Symphony, Overture, Concerto Dates: October 5-7, 2012 Location: University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) Faculty: Mark Gibson, Director of Orchestral Studies, College-Conservatory of Music; University of Cincinnati Gustav Meier, Director of Graduate Conducting, The Peabody Institute of Music; Johns Hopkins University Ulrich Nicolai, Director, Hochschule Symphony Orchestra, Hochschule für Musik und Theater, München SPECIAL GUEST FACULTY : Leon Fleisher, Internationally renowned conductor and Andrew Mellon Foundation Chair of Piano ; The Peabody Institute of Music ; Johns Hopkins University Repertoire: Symphonies nos. 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7 Violin Concerto, Piano Concerto No. 5 Overture to Prometheus Orchestras: CCM Philharmonia and Concert Orchestra Description: For the first time, the annual CCM Orchestral Conducting Workshop is devoted solely to BEETHOVEN. Participants will have the rare opportunity to work with the renowned CCM Philharmonia and Concert Orchestra exclusively on the challenges of Beethoven’s symphonic oeuvre. Maestros Gustav Meier, Mark Gibson, Ulrich Nicolai and special guest faculty, Leon Fleisher, will invite up to 10 participants and 10 apprentices to the College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) for this exciting weekend; all sessions will be video documented. With our expanded faculty, there will be more orchestra sessions than ever. An auditor level will be added for the first time this year. There will be sessions devoted to score analysis as well as an opportunity for participants to work with two pianos in preparation for the orchestra sessions. There will be occasion as well for open discussion about the repertoire and about the conducting career with the workshop faculty. Schedule: Friday, October 5, 2012 9am Breakfast 10am-1pm Participants work with two pianos 3:30-5:30pm Participants conduct Concert Orchestra 8 pm BEETHOVEN FESTIVAL CONCERT with the CCM Philharmonia and Mo. Gibson Saturday, October 6, 2012 10am-1pm Participants conduct Philharmonia/ Concert Orchestra 2:00-5:00pm Apprentices conduct Concert Orchestra 7pm-10pm Participants conduct Philharmonia Sunday, October 7, 2012 12 noon Brunch with Mos.
