This competition is only for European member states or Switzerland or Nordic Country conductors. There really should be a US conducting competition, or is there one?

This competition is scheduled for Vaasa, Finland, and is open to citizens of a European Union member state, or from Switzerland, or from a Nordic country. The competition is scheduled for Nov. 10-13, 2009. The upper age limit is 40; an applicant should not reach his/her 41st birthday before Nov. 10, 2009. The competition will be limited to a maximum of 20 Competitors and three Reserve Competitors. Prizes: 1st Place: 10,000 Euros; 2nd Place: 7,000 Euros; 3rd Place: 5,000 Euros. The Jury (consisting of Maestros Jorma Panula, Ulf Soderblom, Giordano Bellincampi, Jin Wang, and musicians Siri Ilanko and Harri Forsten) may divide the prizes in some other way. Competition ensembles will be the Jyvaskyla Sinfonia and the Vaasa City Orchestra. The deadline for applying is March 31, 2009.
