David Zinman, music director at the Aspen Music Festival and School for the past 13 years, is leaving his post.

Zinman will also bow out the five concerts he was scheduled to conduct at the festival this summer. In addition, he will not teach or conduct at the affiliated American Academy of Conducting program, which he founded in 2000, AMFS marketing directorLaura Smith said Friday.

The festival and Zinman were in “constructive discussions” about his 2011 contract when Zinman made a request to end the talks, according Smith.

“We have decided to honor his further request to terminate his relationship with the AMFS, effective immediately,” Zinman said in an email.

The Aspen Music Festival presents more than more than 350 events during its eight-week summer season in Aspen. Organizers will seek a replacement for Zinman’s scheduled appearances.
