Masterclass in Orchestral conducting with Lanfranco Marcelletti

– Final concert with orchestra conducted by the participants –

Aria Italiana, Musica Arte e Creatività, an organization devoted to the creation and management of cultural and musical events, based in Mercatello sul Metauro, presents a master class in orchestral conducting culminating in a final concert with Orchestra conducted by the participants.

The course is open to young orchestra conductors of any nationality who speak English or Italian.
The number of active participants is limited to eight people and ten auditors.

The course will be taught by Maestro Lanfranco Marcelletti, Director of Orchestras at the University of Massachusetts (Amherst). He is Music Director of the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra in Ithaca (U.S.A.) and assistant to Maestro Alberto Zedda in the direction of the Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro (ITA).

The classes will be held in Mercatello sul Metauro (PU) from the 2nd to the 14th of august 2010 in the Palazzo Gasparini, a seventeenth century prestigious palace that opens onto the main square of the village.
The final concert and general rehearsals will be performed in San Francis Church, a thirteenth century monumental church with excellent acoustics and main venue for the concert season of Musica&Musica.

There will be a total of 64 hours of coursework. Lessons will be normally accompanied by a pianist. Later in the course of study each active student will have the opportunity to rehearse the assigned piece with the Rossini Orchestra.
Lessons will be based on the program arranged for the final concert, which is composed of the following pieces:

B. Bartok Romanian Folk Dances
L. van Beethoven Symphony No. 2 in D mayor Op. 36
G. Bizet Les dragons de Alcala and Seguidilla from Suite No. 1 in Carmen
W.A. Mozart Symphony No. 32 in G mayor K. 318
I. Stravinsky Eight Instrumental Miniatures
A. Copland Prelude from Symphony No. 1

Final concert
At the end of the course, Saturday, August 14th, the active participants will conduct the final concert of Musica&Musica’s 2010 concert season. The concert will be recorded and downloaded in a DVD that will then be sent to each participant.

Costs and requirements
The tuition fee of the Master Class is € 1.800,00 for the active participants and € 300,00 for the auditors.
