MODESTO SYMPHONY YOUTH ORCHESTRA (MYSO), CALIFORNIA
Position: Music Director. The MYSO serves nearly 90 students annually in three ensembles. The Music Director is responsible for overseeing MYSO’s artistic vision and growth, while providing educational direction for all programming duties. Responsibilities: Oversight of all ensembles, programs and artistic personnel, in addition to conducting the MYSO Symphony Orchestra, the most advanced ensemble; select repertoire; prepare seating charts; assist in auditioning and seat placement for new and returning players; work with the Modesto Symphony Education Director to oversee the selection and hiring of coaches (as approved in the annual budget); make requests for music purchase and rental, working with the Modesto Symphony staff; engage and participate in Modesto Symphony community outreach; and understand/adhere to existing policies and procedures as outlined in MSYO guidelines. Qualifications: Exceptional music and conducting skills; excellent understanding of the youth orchestra environment; strong skills in interpersonal relationships/leadership and communication; and a strong ability to work and communicate with youth. Compensation: A part-time position with a competitive monthly stipend. Deadline: April 15, 2013. In-person auditions are to be held in mid to late May.
