This program is scheduled for June 17-July 6, 2013.  It is entitled “Realizing ROSSINI”, a unique course exclusively on the challenging craft of opera.  Up to 20 conductors and pianists, along with a carefully selected cast, will be invited to participate in this one-of-a-kind experience while in residence at the CCM.  Working with an internationally renowned faculty, led by Mark Gibson, Director of Orchestral Studies at CCM, conductors and pianists will have daily Italian instruction, text and style sessions and conducting and coaching master classes.  Additional faculty will include Marie-France Lefebvre (CCM, Metropolitan Opera) in coaching.  Additional faculty will be announced.  Italian coaching will include representatives of the Accademia Europea di Firenze, Italy.  (Faculty and workshop aspects are subject to change.)  Students will also participate in staging rehearsals, work with singers and lead orchestra rehearsals.  Advanced opera singers will have the opportunity to learn a role in its entirety, and work with renowned faculty and industry professionals, along with daily Italian classes and coachings.  The course culminates in a semi-staged performance, with orchestra, of “Il Barbiere de Siviglia” and “La Cenerentola”.  The operas will be performed without recitatives.  In “La Cenerentola”, Clorinda and Alidoro arias will be included, and Tisbe will sing an aria in accordance with the “pocket aria” tradition.  In “Barbiere”, Berta’s aria will be included.  Costs:  Application fee will be $80 for all applicants.  An accepted fee of $10.  Tuition will be $3000 for conductors, $2000 for pianists, and $1000 for auditors;  Singers in principal roles, $650; in non-principal roles, $400; covers and observers, $250.  Housing for the two-week course will be $600 per room in on-campus housing, double occupancy (shared room).  Meals are not included in the cost of the course; however, an optional meal plan may be obtained by contacting the office (and prices may vary).  To apply: visit the web-site:  (  For additional information, contact Sara Danner Dukic, Manager of CCM Summer Programs, and General Manager of CCM/Spoleto, at University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music, by phone:  1-513-556-5662; by fax:  1-513-556-2698; or by cell phone (in Italy):  +39 338 236 9706; web-site:  (, or by e-mail:  <>.
