The Music Department of Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university located in Silicon Valley, invites applications for an Academic Year Adjunct Lecturer to serve as Artistic and Musical Director of the Santa Clara University Orchestra and New Music Ensemble beginning fall 2013. The contract is for one year, 5 courses.
The Santa Clara Orchestra meets a minimum of 4 hours per week each quarter, and the New Music Ensemble meets a minimum of 3 hours per week each quarter, as per the schedule and needs of the department. The successful candidate must serve as conductor, artistic and musical director of the Santa Clara University of both ensembles. including the selection and programming of music; quarterly auditions of new members; weekly rehearsals; demonstrated ability to recruit and attract new orchestra and ensemble members, and the presentation of a performance at the end of each quarter, or as deemed appropriate to the department’s overall curriculum and needs.
Fulfill all responsibilities associated with assigned courses: conduct all assigned class meetings; hold weekly office hours on campus; assign and submit grades to the Registrar by the designated deadline; administer numerical and narrative evaluations for each class; fulfill other minor instructional or academic duties, such as attending special department events or meetings, as may be assigned by the Chair of the Department.
