Part- time Visiting Lecturer of Music as Conductor of the Claremont Concert Orchestra Scripps College

Scripps College, a women’s liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition and the lead college for the Joint Music Program of Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, and Scripps Colleges invites applications for the position of visiting lecturer in music as Conductor of the Claremont Concert Orchestra in Spring 2014. Teaching experience required. Doctorate preferred. ABD or master’s degree with significant teaching/performing experience considered.

The Claremont Concert Orches tra is an auditioned ensemble consisting of music and non-music majors from Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, and Scripps Colleges. The ensemble performs two programs per semester focusing on repertoire from the 18th through the mid-20th centuries. Concerts in the 2012–2013 Season included works by Beethoven, Bizet, Brahms, Dvořák, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Respighi, and Rossini. The Claremont Concert Orchestra is a member of the League of American Orchestras and the Association of California Symphony Orchestras.

Applicants should submit a letter of application, c.v., two letters of recommendation, a conducting video containing 15-20 minutes of material demonstrating the candidate’s rehearsal/performance skills (majority of footage should have the conductor facing the camera; acceptable formats include DVD or private YouTube account with the username and password provided), and a sample proposed program containing approximately 60 minutes of music conceived for a liberal arts college orchestra (instrumentation should be no larger than 3 2 2 3 – 4 2 3 1 – 2 perc. – strings) to:
