ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
Visiting Assistant Professor – Director of Orchestra/Applied Upper Strings
One-year position for 2013-2014
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Department of Music at Colorado Mesa University seeks a dynamic orchestra conductor,
teacher and violin performer. Primary responsibilities are to conduct the CMU orchestra and teach applied violin and
viola. Other responsibilities include teaching String Pedagogy and Materials, Symphonic Literature, coaching chamber
ensembles and teaching in other areas based on the expertise of the candidate and the needs of the department. The
successful candidate will recruit for and maintain a vibrant violin and viola studio. The successful candidate will also
become the Concertmaster of the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra and will be remunerated under a separate contract.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Preference will be given to candidates with a doctoral degree. Consideration will also
be given to candidates with a Masters degree who demonstrate exceptional experience and proven success teaching,
conducting and performing. Experience in the music education field desired, but not a requirement for the position.
Colorado Mesa University is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from
diverse backgrounds and who have demonstrated commitment to improving the levels of access and success for
underrepresented students within higher education.
TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: One-year position to begin August 12, 2013. A search will be conducted during the 2013-
2014 academic year for the full-time, tenure-track position.
SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience. Excellent health and retirement benefits package.
