OPERAVERONA announces the International Opera Workshop for Conductors and Opera Singers. Verona (Italy) 2013 July 19th-August 3rd. Mozart – Don Giovanni & Verdi – La Traviata. Special course: Verdi’s Ouvertures and Preludes.
Conducting teachers: Julius Kalmar, Romolo Gessi, Giovanni Pacor. Opera Singing teachers: Domenico Balzani, Aris Christofellis, Alessandra Althoff-Pugliese, Stella Silva. Application deadline: 2013 July 15th

The course is aimed at conductors and singers who want to study and improve their technique and interpretation by analysing and resolving the various inherent problems. The course will be organized so that the pieces can be studied both theoretically and practically on the piano and with the orchestra, in order to obtain the complete staging of an operatic performance.
Each student can choose whether to study one or both the operas (Don Giovanni – La Traviata). The best students may be included in the final concert (2013 August 2nd) or in other operatic productions programmed for summer 2013.

Programme: the course will focus on Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Verdi’s La Traviata. The study programme for singers and conductors will progress individually on the piano, collectively with stage rehearsals and, towards the end, with the orchestra. The orchestra rehearsals will concern pieces from Don Giovanni, La Traviata, and Ouvertures & Preludes from Verdi’s Nabucco, La Traviata, Giovanna’Arco, La Forza del destino. Any other operatic or liederistic repertoire will be admitted at the rehearsals with piano for the special seminar of free singing repertoire.

Admission: singers and conductors of all nationalities and all ages can take part in these courses.
Admission is after assessment of a curriculum and a short aptitude test which will be held on the first day of lessons. The singers will audition in order to verify or identify the most suitable repertoire for their vocal style. The conductors must demonstrate that they have a suitable basic technique.
The students found unsuitable will still be able to participate as listeners.
