VERDI INTENSIVE

Don Carlos & La Traviata
October 4 – 6 2013
University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music

In honor of the bicentennial of the birth of Italian master Giuseppe Verdi, our annual CCM Fall Conducting workshop is devoted to excerpts from two of his greats operas: Don Carlos (1867, in French) and La Traviata (1853).

Maestro Mark Gibson and other guest faculty invite up to 10 participants, as well as auditors, to CCM to conduct a program of arias and ensembles from the two operas with soloists from CCM Opera and the CCM Philharmonia and Concert Orchestras.

Sessions will be devoted to working with singers, conducting opera as distinct from symphonic conducting and on Verdi style. Participants will work with singers, pianos and string quartet in preparation for the orchestra sessions, and will share in open discussion with singers and faculty about opera, opera conducting and operatic careers.

The weekend includes an evening concert in which participants conduct CCM Opera singers and the CCM Philharmonia and Concert Orchestras.
