Middle and High School Orchestras:  

Teach intermediate through advanced level middle and high school orchestras. Provide full orchestra opportunity for advanced classes.   Provide performance opportunities for students, which include orchestra festivals, solo and ensemble as well as day and evening concerts.  Continue professional development through district/league meetings and staff development opportunities.  Coordinate with colleagues at all levels to provide an articulated 5-12 string program.  Deliver the BSD orchestra curriculum as posted on Global Scholar (district website).  


Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State teaching certificate with an endorsement in instrumental music. Must meet NCLB standard for Highly Qualified teachers.

Experience with teaching school orchestras. Experience in extra-curricular activities pertaining to music. (At appropriate level). 

Experience in working with parents and promoting parent participation in support of music activities. 

Knowledge and skills in music score interpretation and conducting techniques. 

Knowledge of instrumental literature and concepts for elementary and/or secondary level. 

Knowledge of how the school orchestra curriculum relates to the total District music program, and how the music program works as an integral part of the school environment. 

Skill and musicianship to perform proficiently on string instruments. 

Ability to manage inventories, care of equipment, and music library. 

Ability to meet and maintain Punctuality and attendance expectations.

Ability to perform all duties in accordance with applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements.


Certificated staff work the school year contract with placement on the District and BEA bargaining agreement salary schedule.  Placement on the schedule is determined by training and experience.  Benefits include retirement, medical, dental and other benefits, according to Board policy and contract specifications.
