ETOWAH YOUTH ORCHESTRAS (EYO), ALABAMA
Position: Assistant Conductor. Full-time. The EYO seeks a dynamic, energetic conductor and string educator to join the staff of one of the most celebrated youth orchestra programs in the country. Responsibilities: Serve as the Lead Educator of the EYO program, teaching Beginning and Intermediate Orchestra classes to fifth- and sixth- grade students in the Etowah County School system. The Assistant Conductor will also serve as the cover conductor for the Etowah Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Etowah String Philharmonic, and the June Moore Prelude Strings, and will be an integral part of the artistic team of the EYO program, working closely with the Music Director and the Associate Conductor. Additional duties and responsibilities will include administrative work in regard to the in-school orchestra program. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in music (preferably music education or conducting) required. Master’s degree in music preferred. Orchestral conducting and string teaching experience, along with proficiency on a string instrument, is highly preferred. Because of the nature of the position, residency is required. Additional teaching and performing opportunities may be available through the Gadsden Community School for the Arts, local colleges and universities, and local musical ensembles. The successful candidate will have strong organizational and communication skills, and will be a detail-oriented independent thinker with strong initiative and interpersonal skills. He/She will possess the ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team, and will have strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Compensation: $22,500-32,500, based on qualifications, experience, and possible additional duties.
