Master Class in Conducting with Heinz Holliger

Heinz Holliger

26 August – 29 August 2014
Since it began, an integral component of the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY has been the master class in conducting. For it is not only instrumentalists but conductors as well who face the unique challenges posed by the complex scores of music written in the 20th and 21st centuries. In the summer of 2014 Heinz Holliger will lead the master class in conducting. He has had a close relationship with the Festival for more than 50 years — as an oboist, conductor, and composer — and it is precisely this multifaceted background that makes him such an ideal leader of the master class, in which he can convey to participants not only his knowledge and practical experience as a musician but also his special insights as a composer. Holliger has selected a widely varied range of works, including Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s Symphony  in one Movement and the third of Claude Debussy’s Images (“Rondes du Printemps”). The participants in the master class will work through these scores under his guidance, leading the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY Orchestra.
