The Department of Performing and Creative Arts at The College of Staten Island (CSI), a senior college of The City University of New York (CUNY), invites applications for a tenure-track position in Music at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2014. Primary responsibilities will be to teach, recruit, maintain an undergraduate instrumental studio, coach chamber ensembles, and serve as Music Director and conductor of the CSI Orchestra. Recruit students and community members to participate in the orchestra, and revitalize the string program. Supplemental teaching assignments will be based upon the special skills and interests of the candidate, although departmental needs may factor into the course load. Administrative duties will include department and college committee assignments and other services appropriate to the position. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active performing career.


Completed doctorate (D.M.A. preferred); violinist/violist preferred; conducting experience; and at least 3 years college teaching experience. Expertise in any other area in music (theory, history, musicianship, etc.). Outstanding artistic performance record as soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician. Evidence of teaching excellence, including ability to work in a culturally diverse setting in a liberal-arts college environment.
