POSITION: Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor of Instrumental Conducting, with possibility of renewal. 

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience 

QUALIFICATIONS: One advanced degree in instrumental conducting is required. Preference given to candidates who hold the doctorate in instrumental conducting. An appointment without the doctorate may be at the instructor level. 

Record of significant and ongoing accomplishments as a conductor. 

Evidence of successful conducting at the collegiate level; evidence of conducting professional ensembles is desirable. 

Evidence of success as a classroom teacher at the collegiate level. 

A commitment to working and teaching with colleagues in the School of Music and across the University in a liberal arts environment. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct the Orchestra and the Wind Ensemble (including all administrative duties), teach courses in various levels of conducting (fundamentals, instrumental, and advanced instrumental), and teach a course in orchestral and band literature and score reading (primarily for music education majors). Take an active role in promoting the School of Music and recruiting students (through tours with ensembles, working closely with applied studio teachers, establishing contacts with high school orchestra and band programs, and other means). 

Maintain an active program of appropriate performance/research activities. Serve on committees and perform other services for the School of Music. 

APPOINTMENT: Will begin August 1, 2014 

SCHOOL OF MUSIC: The School of Music is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (since 1930) and offers the Bachelor of Music degrees in Composition, Education, and Performance; the Bachelor of Arts in Music; and an arts management minor, which is offered in cooperation with the Department of Business Administration. The School of Music has a full-time faculty of 21 and a part-time faculty of 34 who teach approximately 175 majors.
