NYO-USA’s Assistant Conductor will have the opportunity to support the work of NYO-USA Orchestra Director James Ross and Instrumental Faculty during the orchestra’s residency at Purchase College, and to assist conductor David Robertson as necessary during his rehearsals and on tour. The Assistant Conductor is expected to be present at all full orchestral rehearsals, and prepared to lead portions of full or sectional rehearsals at the request of the Orchestra Director or Conductor. As needed, s/he may be asked to work with individual players or groups of players, and to advise/assist program staff and/or the Orchestra Librarian on artistic needs that may arise during the residency and tour.
The Assistant Conductor position to open to all US Residents aged 18–35 who have permission to undertake paid employment in the United States. A modest stipend and all expenses will be provided by Carnegie Hall.
Conductors may apply for this position online by completing a short application form and uploading an audition video no later than March 15, 2014. The video should include up to 15 minutes of rehearsal or performance footage, including at least two unedited extracts of 3 or more minutes from contrasting symphonic works. Please upload video that is shot with the conductor facing the camera and as much of the ensemble in the frame as possible.
