COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY (CMU), GRAND JUNCTION
Position: Director of Orchestra/Applied Upper Strings. Full-time, tenure-track position. CMU is seeking a dynamic orchestra conductor, teacher and violin performer. Responsibilities: (Primary:) Conduct the CMU Orchestra and teach applied violin and viola; teach String Pedagogy and Materials, Symphonic Literature, coach chamber ensembles and teach in other areas based on the expertise of the candidate and the needs of the department. The successful candidate will recruit for and maintain a vibrant violin and viola studio. The position also serves as the Concertmaster of the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra and will be remunerated under a separate contract. Additional responsibilities include research and scholarly activities, providing academic advising to students as assigned, engaging in service to the University and community, and participation in Departmental and University committee work. Qualifications: Minimum of a Master’s Degree with demonstrated exceptional experience and proven success teaching, conducting and performing. Preference will be given to candidates with a doctoral degree. Experience in the music education field is desired, but is not a requirement for the position. CMU is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and who have demonstrated commitment to improving the levels of access and success for underrepresented students within higher education. Rank: Assistant Professor. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. There is an excellent health and benefits retirement package. Begin: Aug. 11, 2014.
