Texas State University seeks an orchestral conductor with a strong commitment to undergraduate music education and a growing graduate program; demonstrated excellence in musicianship and rehearsal techniques; well-developed communication skills and organizational abilities; demonstrated effectiveness as a teacher at the college level; ability to work collaboratively in a university environment; and strong commitment to recruiting and to meeting the educational needs of a diverse student population. 

Position Description 
Direct Texas State Symphony Orchestra and oversee or conduct the String Orchestra. Actively recruit well-qualified instrumentalists. Direct orchestral ensembles for special events and opera productions Teach conducting at graduate, advanced and basic undergraduate levels as assigned. Teach other courses as assigned depending on strengths of the candidate. Participate in professional activities as a conductor/performer and/or music scholar. Regularly participate in faculty meetings, committees, and other service activities. 

Required: Master of Music. Record of accomplishment as an orchestral conductor at the professional, collegiate, or youth level. Successful experience in opera conducting. To be eligible for hire at the associate professor rank, candidate must meet the requirements for that rank as established by the department. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and department established standards. 

Preferred: Doctorate in music or equivalent professional experience. Experience in university-level ensemble teaching. National and/or international exposure as a professional conductor.
