Description of SSO and the Role of the Music Director
The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, a professional orchestra founded in 1931, is known
for performing diverse repertoire ranging from classical to renowned Canadian
composers. The SSO is excited for the future of the organization, along with the growth
of the City of Saskatoon. The Music Director is the principal conductor, artistic head,
and public face of the SSO, reporting to the Board of Directors of the Saskatoon
Symphony Society.
Education and Experience
The successful Music Director must have advanced musical training with an emphasis on formal
conducting education. The Music Director must also have substantial experience leading and
conducting professional musical groups.

Strong preference will be given to candidates who will be committed to the Saskatoon community.
The successful candidate must have the ability to balance artistry with economic realities inherent
with orchestras operating in Canada.
