The second annual Bassi Brugnatelli International Conducting and Singing Symposium will be held 22 June – 1 July, 2015 at Palazzo Bassi Brugnatelli in Robbiate, Italy. The faculty includes: John Ratledge–Founder and Artistic Director, The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa; Rebecca Turner–Artist in Residence, Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina; Annalisa Monticelli–Collaborative Pianist, Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin, Ireland; Elizabeth Claxton Castillo-Soprano in Atlanta, Georgia; Christopher O’Rear, Bartione, The University of Alabama in Gadsden, Alabama; Dan Perkins, Guest Conductor/Lecturer/Collaborative pianist at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire; and Stafford Turner, Baritone, in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The Conducting Masterworks Program will study Mendelssohn’s Elijah (Carus Verlag or Kalmus Edition), including the Overture and all recitatives and arias, as well as operatic arias to be announced. The symposium pays particular attention to the unique problems that occur between orchestral conductors and singers. Conductors will receive daily podium time with professional soloists, a chamber orchestra, and a collaborative pianist. The following seminars will be offered: Orchestral Rehearsal Techniques in the Choral/Orchestral Setting; Score Study and Preparation; and Conductors and Singers Round Table: Building Meaningful Collaboration.

Singers will have lessons and coachings with the voice faculty. Seminars will include: Role Preparation for Singers: Character Analysis and Sub-texting; and Conductors and Singers Round Table: Building Meaningful Collaboration.

Performances will include faculty recitals, a concert of operatic arias presented by the participants, a choral concert given by a guest professional choir, and a grand concert featuring conductors and singers.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE:
Upon acceptance, a €500 non-refundable deposit must be made in order to secure a position in the symposium. The balance will be due 1 May 2015. Specific information about wiring the deposit will be emailed upon acceptance.

TUITION COSTS: Tuition is paid in EUROS via PayPal or a bank-to-bank transfer

REFUND POLICY:
If notification is made by 15 May 2015, 50% of the amount paid will be reimbursed, less the non-refundable deposit (€500) and application fee $50 USD). There will be no refund thereafter.
