Tenure-Track Faculty Position – Wind Ensemble Conductor
RANK: Assistant Professor
DATE OF HIRE: Fall 2015
SALARY: To be negotiated, commensurate with experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct wind ensemble, teach graduate and undergraduate
conducting, band literature, wind or brass methods classes and lessons on a wind or brass
instrument. Additional course assignments may include music theory, music appreciation,
music education classes and/or student teacher supervision in K-12 schools, and other duties
as assigned by the Chair of the School of Music and Dance. A strong commitment to
recruiting students to the School of Music and Dance is required. Faculty members in SMD
are expected to participate in School, College and University service and to demonstrate
appropriate scholarly or performance accomplishments as a condition of tenure and promotion.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in music, outstanding musical artistry and
effective teaching are required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: National or international reputation as artist/scholar.
Doctorate or equivalent in music and University teaching experience. Brass teaching
capability with performance abilities is particularly valued. Evidence of successful conducting
and ability to administer and maintain a flourishing wind ensemble program. Record of
professional association with music educators and performers. Ability to teach and recruit
undergraduate students and maintain professional career as artist/teacher.
