ADRIAN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA (ASO), ADRIAN, MICHIGAN Position: Music Director/Conductor. Part-time

Position: Music Director/Conductor. Part-time. The orchestra is in its 34th season and includes musicians from Southeastern Michigan and Northwestern Ohio. A typical season includes four classical and three pops concerts. The orchestra’s recently expanded education program consists of three education concerts including Carnegie Hall’s Link Up program. The orchestra’s objective is to create musical performances of the highest quality and to present programs which enhance the quality of life for citizens of Lenawee County and Southeastern Michigan. Responsibilities: The Music Director is responsible for the artistic vision, profile, quality and development of the orchestra in artistic, administrative, and community areas. Artistic duties include; primary responsibility for the artistic planning, operation, and development of the orchestra. Suggest courses of action to improve and enhance the ASSO’s musical and artistic objectives. Plan the concert season, including but not limited to Classical, Pops, and Education concerts. Select repertoire in consultation with the Executive Director, Artistic Advisory and Education Committees and determine the number and kind of rehearsals for the season. Recommend guest artists to appear with the orchestra and negotiate fees within budgetary parameters. Participate in the selection of orchestra personnel including but not limited to conducting auditions. Monitor musicians’ performance levels, communicating concerns to the musicians and initiating termination for artistic reasons when deemed appropriate. Determine concert stage set-up to present the orchestra at its best. Rehearse and conduct performances as outlined in the Music Director contract. Administratively, communicate regularly with the Executive Director. Work collaboratively with the ASO staff and assist with season marketing plans. Participate in public relations activities. Participate in developing strategic plans and goals. Work with board members, volunteer organizations and committees. Attend board meetings as requested and outlined in the contract. In the community, become a visible part in Adrian and surrounding area. Assist in general promotion and be available for fundraising appearance and community events as requested. Sustain and enhance relationships with partner organizations and community entities. Represent the ASO at functions as deemed appropriate. Advise the Board about activities and developments in the symphonic world. Communicate with the orchestra’s constituencies. Develop and maintain cultural, business, philanthropic and educational relationships which advance the orchestra’s objectives.
