Job Description The Department of Music at The University of Mississippi announces a vacancy for Assistant or Associate Professor: Orchestra Director. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Full-time, tenure-track, nine-month appointment, beginning August 2015.
Job Responsibilities The university orchestra is primarily a student-staffed ensemble, with faculty and community members filling out the sections as needed. The university orchestra currently presents three concerts each year and collaborates with the UM Opera Theatre. The successful candidate will coordinate all activities associated with teaching and recruiting for the orchestra. The candidate will also maintain creative scholarly and service contributions appropriate to the position, such as interacting with school orchestra directors, teaching clinics, and adjudicating festivals. Additional teaching responsibilities will be determined by departmental needs and the candidate’s strengths.
Minimum Qualifications Qualifications/Skills: Masters degree required with demonstrated high level of orchestral conducting ability, successful teaching experience, organizational and administrative skills, effective record of recruitment, and program development. Demonstrated skill in a secondary teaching area is also required.
