February 19-21, 2015

Fennell_2004_1The Conductors Guild is proud to offer an exciting workshop with the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. Now in our sixth year, the Frederick Fennell Memorial Masterclass continues to honor the legacy of Frederick Fennell and the Eastman Wind Ensemble. This Conductor Training Workshop provides participants with the experience of conducting wind ensemble literature under the guidance of faculty members Donald Hunsberger, Frank Battisti and Mark Scatterday. Twelve active participants will receive over 50 minutes of podium time with the Eastman Wind Ensemble and Eastman Harmonie. Ten active participants will receive 20 minutes of podium time with the Eastman Wind Orchestra.

The goal of the Conductors Guild Training Workshops is to provide the maximum amount of specific and insightful guidance on both technical and musical matters to each attendee in a constructive, encouraging, and non-competitive environment.

The workshop is divided into two tiers:

  1. Tier 1 Participant: twelve core conductors who will conduct the Eastman Wind Ensemble and Eastman Harmonie throughout the duration of the workshop.
  2. Tier 2 Participant: ten conductors who will conduct the Eastman Wind Orchestra in two sessions.
  3. Auditor:   observing attendees

New feature of this workshop: All applicants will receive feedback on their applications.

This workshop is sponsored by the Conductors Guild and is opened to members of the Conductors Guild only. However, if you are not currently a member of the Conductors Guild, you have the option of joining by including a separate membership application with your workshop application. You may also apply online. The Conductors Guild does not accept workshop applications from non-members.
