Position Announcement
The Colorado Symphony seeks a talented and dynamic Associate Conductor and Assistant Conductor.
Associate Conductor responsibilities include leading programs in all genres including subscription, pops,
holiday, seasonal, community and educational; acting as cover conductor; and performing other
conducting and non-conducting duties as assigned. Assistant Conductor responsibilities are similar with
a greater emphasis on serving as a cover conductor. These positions will offer full-time employment
beginning September 2015.
Candidates must have meaningful orchestral conducting experience in a professional or academic
setting, a broad knowledge of orchestral repertoire and programming, be fluent and articulate in
English, have a collaborative spirit, and be willing to reside in the Denver metro region. Candidates must
also be willing and effective public advocates for the Colorado Symphony and should be comfortable
engaging with the public both formally and informally.

Application Procedure
Individuals should submit a cover letter, resume and contact information for three professional
references. Candidates are also required to submit a current video-taped work sample in high quality
North American format DVD. Video should be a close front-view perspective of either a rehearsal or
performance with full symphonic or large chamber orchestra ensemble.

Individuals chosen to participate in the audition process will be notified by May 21, 2015. Auditions will
take place July 6, 7 and 8, 2015 in Denver, CO. Auditionees will need to provide their own
transportation and housing. (The Symphony will be able to provide suggestions on nearby hotels
offering reduced rates.)
Round 1
8-9 candidates
Each candidate will conduct for approximately 15 minutes.
Repertoire: Brahms – Symphony No. 1 – Mvt. I
Rimsky-Korsakov – Scheherazade – Mvts. II and III
Mozart – Overture to “The Magic Flute”
Stravinsky – Petrouchka – Mvts. I and II
Strauss – Don Juan
Round 2
5-6 candidates
Each candidate will conduct for approximately 20 minutes.
Repertoire: Soliloquy from “Carousel” (5 mins.)
Stravinsky – Petrouchka – Mvts. I and II (Candidates will be told to rehearse OR play straight
through – their decision)
Round 3
3-4 candidates
Each candidate will conductor for approximately 30 minutes.
Repertoire: Sight-reading (5 mins.) Styne – Overture to “Gypsy”
Mozart – Overture to “The Magic Flute” (5 mins.)
Give a presentation to the orchestra about Strauss’ Don Juan as though presenting to a
group of 5th graders (5 mins.)
Rehearse or play through Don Juan (15 mins.)
Each candidate will also meet with the Search Committee for approximately 20 minutes for an
