RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct and administer all activities of the Lawrence Symphony Orchestra, opera orchestra; classroom teaching in conducting, teaching Lawrence’s flagship Freshman Studies program, and the possibility of other teaching responsibilities, depending upon candidate’s interests and qualifications. Additional responsibilities include all service related activities associated with a tenure-track position including student advising, admissions-related responsibilities, recruiting, developing relationships with music educators, and participating in committee assignments and other forms of institutional and community service.

QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated excellence in orchestral conducting and teaching. Must be able to bring our students to the highest levels of artistic and musical mastery in a nurturing environment that embraces the notion of the undergraduate orchestra as classroom, laboratory, as well as first-class performance ensemble. A forward-thinking leader who can work with our students to tackle the question of redefining a 21st century symphony orchestra is highly desirable. Appropriate terminal degree or equivalent experience. A record of successful collegiate teaching experience preferred. Although this is a Conservatory position, an understanding and strong support of the ideals and goals of a broad liberal arts education is a must.

RANK AND SALARY: Tenure-track. Rank and salary dependent upon qualifications and experience.
