Position Announcement Omaha Symphony Conducting Fellowship Audition: April 1, 2015 About the Position The Conducting Fellow will be an integral member of the team responsible for imagining, planning, and executing the Omaha Symphony’s groundbreaking Education and Community Engagement concerts and activities.   These offerings are central to the Symphony’s mission, and are considered by board, staff and musicians to be both essential and high-visibility.  Annually, nearly 30,000 schoolchildren participate.   This is a new position, with an initial appointment length of two seasons/years. Conducting Fellowship responsibilities will include: • Residing in Omaha for the duration of the appointment.  • Participate in an active mentoring relationship with Omaha Symphony Music Director and Resident Conductor.  • Structuring, planning and leading Education and Community Engagement concerts, residencies and tours, in collaboration with and as assigned by the Resident Conductor, Music Director, and Symphony staff.  • Planning and hosting Community Engagement activities, including pre-concert lectures.   • Vetting the quality of archival recordings intended for broadcast.   • Serving as cover conductor for the Symphony’s stylistically diverse concert season, which includes MasterWorks, Symphony Joslyn (chamber orchestra), Pops, Symphony Rocks, Movie Music and Family series concerts.   • Various administrative duties which may include, but are not limited to, attending repertoire planning meetings, staff, board and committee meetings. • Various public relations duties, which may include public speaking engagements and other functions where the Conducting Fellow represents the Symphony.
