Position #36560. Assistant Professor (tenure-earning track), nine month position. SALARY: Commensurate with training and experience. Direct the university orchestras, teach string music education courses and other courses according to the ability of the applicant and needs of the department. Ongoing research and university service is an expectation of all tenured and tenure-earning faculty. Collaboration with faculty, staff, and students in both Music and Theater Departments and student recruitment is expected. Minimum Qualifications: Evidence of superb musicianship including a quality and significance of professional activity that demonstrates a clear capacity for academic advancement commensurate with a tenure-earning position; an earned master’s degree in music from an accredited institution; at least five years of professional experience in orchestra directing and string music education; and the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, university administration, and the community. Preferences: An earned doctoral degree in music from an accredited institution; significant successful experience in orchestra directing/string music education at the college level; strong leadership and administrative skills; evidence of successful recruitment of students and the ability to work well with public school music educators; and experience working with diverse orchestral genres including opera and musical theatre.
