We are happy to collaborate again with the Chief Conductor of the Berliner Symphoniker, Maestro Lior Shambadal. Maestro Shambadal, born in 1950, is a very sought after conductor with a long international career as an opera and concerts conductor. As a teacher he gives several masterclasses for conductors each year. In this masterclass we will have the opportunity to work closely with Maestro Shambadal and the Berlin Sinfonietta, and for the first time, also together with a choir and soloists on two masterpieces of the choral repertoire, Schubert’s Mass Nr.2 in G major and Mozart’s Requiem in D minor. Conductors in all levels and ages are welcome to apply. This masterclass is limited to the maximum of 15 active participants*.
Besides intensive active conducting sessions with a professional orchestra, each one of the participants will have the chance to work with Mr. Shambadal on critical aspects of conducting including studying the score, musical analysis, conducting technique and principals of working with the singers. Like always we will hold four orchestra rehearsals (4 hours long each) with the professional musicians of the Berlin Sinfonietta. In addition, for the first time we will hold three more choir rehearsals (3 hours long each). Be prepared for a very intensive masterclass – week with practical conducting on each day.
All the participants will have the chance to perform in the final, public concert.
The course will be taught primarily in English, and secondarily in German. If you don’t speak these languages, and you would like to participate in the masterclass, we will make our best effort to provide a translator. Please mention that in your application. All the sessions with the orchestra and the choir will be video recorded, and each participant will receive his or her videos on a 8 GB USB stick, which he or she may keep and take home with them. Participants are welcome to bring their own recording device.
You are more than welcome to apply here.
Mass Nr. 2 in G Major D. 167
W. A. Mozart
Requiem in D minor KV 626
The participants must prepare all the repertoire pieces.
* The length of the sessions with the orchestra and the choir entitled to each participant of and the choir has increased. This masterclass requires the bringing together of much bigger musical and logistical forces than our usual masterclasses, like a choir, soloists and more. Considering the already growing interest in this masterclass, and the fact that this masterclass is a “one time event” we, together with Maestro Shambadal, have decided that we will open this masterclass for more active participants togerther with adding more sessions. Nevertheless, the addition of more active participants will not cause any reduction of the time with the orchestra or the choir that each participant entitled for. On the contrary. In this masterclass each one of the participants will enjoy longer sessions with the orchestra, the choir and individually with Maestro Shamabdal in comparison to our usual masterclasses.
