ATLANTIC COAST INTERNATIONAL CONDUCTING COMPETITION: August 1 to 3 2015 in Esposende (Portugal)

The competition is part of the festival and aims to offer an important step and opportunity toward a real career to emerging orchestra conductors and is opened to musicians of any nationality without age limits. The competition aims to be an artistic opportunity for those seeking to start or build an international career. The jury of the competition, of international reputation, puts the competition at the highest international level and contributes to the artistic development and national teaching.

THE COMPETITION

1. THE COMPETITION IS OPEN TO ALL CONDUCTORS, WITHOUT NATIONALITY OR AGE LIMITATIONS

2. THE COMPETITION IS STRUCTURED AS FOLLOWS

Eliminatory phase: video submission by candidates, application deadline 15 June 2015
First Round: Piano 4H, 1 August 2015 (morning)
Second Round: Piano & Soloist, 1 August 2015 (evening)
Semifinal: Chamber Ensemble, 2 August 2015
Final: Symphony Orchestra, 3 August 2015

The number of participants at the eliminatory phase is not limited, the organization aims to offer to each candidate the opportunity to apply for the competition. The eliminatory phase will be held by video & cv submission and it will be analysed by the Juri. The decision will be anounced until June 22 2015

4. APPLICATION & PARTICIPATON FEE
4.1. Registration & Fees
a) The participation fee to apply for the conducting competition is €150 that can be paid by bank transfer to:
b) Only the conductors selected to the First Round are expected to pay the rest of the fee, 450€ to the same acount. The organization board will send an email to each participant that enters the First Round, maximum untill 22 June 2015.

THE FULL FEE (150€ + 450€), FOR CONDUCTORS WHO COME TO ESPOSENDE, INCLUDE:
– 3* HOTEL (DOUBLE ROOM): check inn 31 july; check out august 4 2015.
– MEALS (BREAKFAST, LUNCH & DINNER): between august 1 and 3 (breakfast also on august 4) 2015.

5. REPERTOIRE
First Round: Piano 4 hands
Brahms – Symphony 1 (all movements)

Second Round: Piano & Soloist
Dvorak – Biblical Songs, opus 99
Tchaikovsky – Violin Concerto 1st mov

Semifinal: Chamber Ensemble
Stravinsky – Wind Octet
Dvorak – Wind Serenade, op. 44

Final: Symphony Orchestra
Tchaikovsky – Symphony 4 (all movements)

The First Round is open to a maximum of 30 conductors, each will have 15m max. to conduct the pieces indicated. Conductors must be prepared to conduct any part of the symphony.

The Second Round is open to a maximum of 12 conductors, each will have 20m max. to conduct the pieces indicated. Conductors must be prepared to conduct any part from the works listed.

The Semifinal is open to a maximum of 8 conductors, each will have 20m max. to conduct and rehearsal the pieces indicated. Conductors must be prepared to conduct any part from the works listed.

The Final is open to 5 conductors, each will have 30 minutes max. to conduct and rehearsal the piece indicated. Conductors must be prepared to conduct any part of the symphony.

The winner will be announced after the Final Round, in a public event, early on the evening of August 4.

d) To the SEMIFINALISTS will be given an official certificate of Semifinalists

e) Those who successfully pass the ELIMINATORY PHASE and be present at the FIRST ROUND in Esposende will receive an official participation certificate.

7. THE COMPETITION JURY WILL BE COMPOSED OF THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS

M° Luis Miguel Clemente (Portugal), President of the jury, Phd Orchestral Conducting Aveiro University, Mmus Maryland University, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Atlantic Coast Orchestra;

M° Colin Metters (England), Emeritus Professor of Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music, Director of Studies at the Royal Academy of Music between 1983-2013; Principal Guest Conductor and Music Advisor to the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra. Worldwide renowned conducting pedagogue.

M° Enrique Garcia Asensio (Spain), former assistant to Mº Sergiu Celibidache, RTVE Symphony Orchestra Spain; Valencia Symphony Orchestra; assistant conductor of the Washington DC; Emeritus professor of Conducting at the Madrid Superior Conservatory of Music
