The Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra|Netherlands Chamber Orchestra is one of the most diverse cultural enterprises in the Netherlands. Both leading orchestras are partners of the Dutch National Opera in the Music Theatre Amsterdam. Both orchestras also provide a diverse concert program in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and are welcome guests in other Dutch concert halls as well as on the stages of foreign concert halls and festivals. The chief conductor of the NedPhO|NKO is Marc Albrecht. The NedPhO|NKO is known for its involvement in its cultural and social surroundings. Their extensive educational and outreach programme “NedPhO GO!” makes classical music accessible to everyone. Through performances in unusual locations and high profile education projects for children and youngsters the NedPhO|NKO generates a new audience with great success. The orchestra and its offices are based in the NedPhO-Koepel in Amsterdam. The Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra is looking for an Assistant conductor The assistant conductorship consists of 7 single weeks during one year, with a possible extension for a second year. Possibly one opera production of 7 consecutive weeks will be added. An audition will be held on Tuesday 16th June, 14-17 hrs, NedPhO Koepel, Amsterdam. The audition will only take place if sufficient candidates have applied. Closing date for application is 25th May. The assistant will be present at all rehearsals of the concert programmes, conducted by our chief conductor Marc Albrecht, average 7 per season. When necessary, he/she will prepare and correct scores, be present at rehearsals of the leaders and the chief conductor in which bowings are discussed or possibly lead these rehearsals by him/herself, lead sectionals on request of the chief conductor. In some cases he/she will take over rehearsals from the chief conductor partly or completely. This way the assistant can study the way of working of the chief conductor and at the same time serve as his ‘external ear’. Annually the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra creates possibilities for young and upcoming conductors to conduct a complete project of rehearsals and concerts of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and/or the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, for instance the festive December programme at the Royal Concertgebouw, a Robeco-concert in that hall, the Yakult Havenkom open air concert in Almere and projects for schools. Depending on the evaluation of the assistant conductor’s work and his/her affinity with the specific repertoire, such a programme will be allotted to the assistant conductor. If possible timewise, the assistant conductor will be able to assist in one opera project per 2 years of our partner De Nationale Opera, which involves 7 a 8 consecutive weeks. After the first year it will be decided if the assistant conductorship will be extended by another year. Selection The selection consists of three parts. Candidates are requested to send in video fragments or links to video material of rehearsals and/or concerts . First a selection will take place based on the video material. Then the audition will take place on 16th June at NedPhO Koepel, Amsterdam. Thirdly an interview takes place regarding the candidate’s affinity with the NedPhO|NKO to establish whether knowledge, skills and personality match the demands of the job.
