Repertoire:

  • Appalachian Spring Suite (version for 13 instruments) – Aaron Copland
  • Serenade for Strings – Tchaikovsky (string quintet)
  • Variations on a Theme by Haydn – Brahms (Piano Version only)

Some of the participants may be invited to become “Conducting Fellows” with the Allentown Symphony during the 2015 -2016 season.

Conducting Sessions:

There will be daily conducting sessions for all participants, some rehearsals will be with piano, some with string quintet. The course will conclude with the participants preparing a video of the chamber version of Appalachian Spring by Aaron Copland which can be used for conducting auditions and job applications.  For a complete course schedule, go to:www.BeyondtheBaton.com (Seminars/Conducting Technique Workshop). All conducting sessions will be video taped with a remote microphone. 

Extensive time during the course will be spent working on improving and refining conducting technique and gestures utilizing the book “Baton Basics – Communicating Music Through Gestures” by Diane Wittry.

Seminar Fees:  Application Fee: $40; Conducting Participant in Seminar fee: $995; Auditor Fee: $295; Purchase of Baton Basics book: $20.00 (+$5.00 shipping.)  Seminar fees are due upon acceptance to the workshop. The first 12 qualified conducting participants that apply will be accepted.  A maximum of 3 auditors will be accepted. To be considered please apply by Friday, May 29th.
