Assistant Conductor – Amor Artis Chamber Choir and Orchestra Amor Artis – New York, NY Part-time, Temporary ASSISTANT CONDUCTOR OF AMOR ARTIS

Assistant Conductor – Amor Artis Chamber Choir and Orchestra

Amor Artis – New York, NY

Part-time, Temporary

Amor Artis, a superlative chorus and chamber orchestra, is looking for a talented person to fill the part-time position of Assistant Conductor for the 2015–2016 season. The ideal candidate has a strong educational background in choral and/or orchestral conducting, and either is currently studying one or both of those fields or has recently completed his or her studies. The primary focus of this position will be choral music.

About Amor Artis:
The Amor Artis Chorus has 40 singers, most of whom are amateurs, but all of whom have a strong music background. Rehearsals are fast-paced, intense, and run like a fully professional group. Performance standards are exceptionally high. The chorus performs three or four concerts per year. Repertoire draws from the Renaissance and Baroque as well as music from the last century. The 2015–2016 season will feature music by Bach, Heinrich Biber, Georg Muffat, Maurice Duruflé, Duarte Lobo, and others.
Rehearsals for the chorus are held almost every Thursday evening between September and May, with a Saturday morning rehearsal at some point prior to most concerts. Most rehearsals are held on the Upper West Side.
The Amor Artis Orchestra is a fully professional ensemble, comprising some of New York City’s finest baroque and modern instrument players, and performs with the chorus in many of its concerts.
The job of Assistant Conductor of Amor Artis is an educational position, offering firsthand experience working closely with the Artistic Director and with the professional singers in the organization. This is a great opportunity for someone seriously committed to pursuing a career in choral conducting, or someone who wants to better understand the choral field to strengthen his or her work as an orchestral conductor. Artistic Director Ryan Brandau will offer private training in both choral and orchestral conducting to the selected candidate in the form of conducting lessons. Instruction will include work on gesture, score study, rehearsal technique, and musicianship. He or she will be given at least one live conducting opportunity during the season and, if desired, will be given private sessions in the art of accompanying a chorus on the piano.
