The Orchestra Director in DeBaun Performing Arts Center will be responsible for directing the Stevens Orchestra and associated ensembles.
Skills & Experience
We are looking for a hard working individual with strong initiative. Required skills are:
-Strong analytical, planning and organizational skills.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills.
-Proven ability to work with multiple constituencies, such as staff, faculty, administration and students.
-Self-motivated and responsible demeanor, as demonstrated by past achievements.
-Ability to work well both independently and in a team setting.
-A degree in Music or Music Performance required. Minimum 5 years experience conducting high school- and/or college-level orchestras.
-Organize, direct and conduct the Stevens Orchestra, which includes conducting rehearsals, choosing repertoire for rehearsals and concerts, finding Stevens students for membership. Rehearsals of the Orchestra will generally be scheduled on Friday evenings, 6-9 p.m.
-Find music to use for rehearsal and concerts through various arts outlets.
-Fill gaps in instrumentation with professionals for performances of the Orchestra. Approval must be obtained from the Director of DeBaun PAC prior to execution.
-Coordinate with the Music Program Coordinator the use of the Ondrick Music Room for rehearsals.
-Coordinate with the Director of DeBaun PAC the publicity, marketing and program for performances, purchase of sheet music and use of DeBaun Auditorium.
-Represent DeBaun PAC, the Music Program and Stevens to the student body and administration and/or arts community, when necessary.
-Report to the Director of DeBaun Performing Arts Center and ultimately to the Executive Director of University Events.
-Other duties, as assigned.
