 OrchKids Ensemble Director. 

 BSO Education and Community Engagement. Reports to 

 OrchKids Teaching and Learning Specialist and Site Manger. 



 September August, about 25 hours per week. Teaching hours occur after school between the hours of 3:30 6:30 pm and administrative hours are flexible. Must have weekend and evening flexibility for performances.

Job Summary:
 The OrchKids Ensemble Director oversees the instrumental ensembles across all 6 OrchKids sites (including the Symphony Orchestra, String Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band). In addition to conducting the OrchKids Symphony Orchestra, the Ensemble Director works directly with Site Managers and Teaching Artists to plan repertoire, rehearsals, and performances for all other instrumental ensembles. The Ensemble Director also supports the OrchKids Teaching and Learning Specialist in curriculum development, implementation and assessment. Responsibilities include: 
* Oversee the artistic integrity, pedagogical quality, repertoire selection, and rehearsal structure of all OrchKids instrumental ensembles. 
* Lead rehearsals of beginner advanced ensembles each week across OrchKids sites. The core of this work will be leading the OrchKids Symphony Orchestra. 
* Collaborate with OrchKids Teaching Artists, Artistic staff, and Site Managers to determine appropriate repertoire for all ensembles, embracing OrchKids multi-genre musical approach to programming. 
* Communicate lesson plans, rehearsal notes, and weekly rehearsal schedules to Teaching Artists (TAs) and Site Managers. 
* Prepare ensembles for multiple performances per year. 
* Arrange music as needed for various ensembles. 
* Work with Teaching and Learning Specialist to create, implement, and assess curriculum. 
* Assist OrchKids staff in the planning of performances, guest artist visits, and other special events as related to the ensembles. 
* Attend all OrchKids staff meetings and professional development workshops. 

* Masters degree in Music (Conducting or Music Education degree preferred). 
* Extensive experience as a conductor working with youth ensembles. 
* Excellent arranging skills for beginner intermediate level ensembles. 
* Strong knowledge of beginning instrumental pedagogy and curriculum. 
* Strong classroom management skills. 
* Ability to work effectively with children of diverse backgrounds. 
* Passion for and belief in OrchKids social mission and educational goals. 
* High level of professionalism, excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work collaboratively. 
* Flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed. 
* Completion of a successful background and fingerprint check. About the
