ANTAL DORÁTI INTERNATIONAL CONDUCTING COMPETITION
Budapest Symphony Orchestra MÁV with the patronage of Her excellency the Italian Ambassador in Hungary Maria Assunta Accili, in cooperation with the Italian Cultural Center in Budapest, Studio Musica Hungary, Contempoars International Artists Agency, announces the first edition of “ANTÁL DORATI CONDUCTING COMPETITION”

The competition aims to offer a real career opportunity to emerging orchestra conductors and is opened to musicians of any nationality without age limits. The competition will be held in Budapest in Budapest Symphony Orchestra MAV rehearsal hall and Italian Cultural Center “G. Verdi “ great hall in Budapest.
Budapest Symphony Orchestra MAV will be the orchestra for the competition.

The competition will be held in Budapest (Hungary) from 23 until 28 November 2015.

RULES
1. The competition is open to all conductors, without nationality or age limitations.
2. The competition is structured as follows:

Eliminatory phase: 4 hands Piano, 23 and 24 November
First Round, first phase: Soprano and Piano, 25 November
First Round, second phase: String Orchestra, 26 November
Semifinal: Chamber Orchestra, 27 November
Final: Symphony Orchestra, 28 November

The number of participants at the eliminatory phase is not limited, the competition aims to offer each candidate the opportunity to show his/her ability and to enter the final stages. The eliminatory phase will be held in Budapest Symphony Orchestra MAV rehearsal hall, Múzeum utca 11.
The First Round will be open to 30 competitors, the first phase will be held in Budapest Symphony Orchestra MAV rehearsal hall, the second phase will be held at the Italian Cultural Center Concert Hall, Bródy S. utca 8.
The Semifinal will be opened to n° 10 competitors and will be held in the Italian Cultural Center Concert Hall, Bródy S. utca 8.
The Final will be open to n° 3 competitors and will be held at the Italian Cultural Center Concert Hall, Bródy S. utca 8.

3. Repertoire.
Eliminatory: 4 hands piano
A. Dvořak, Serenade for strings
B. Bartók, Intermezzo Interrotto from Concerto for Orchestra
Each competitor will have a maximum time of 15 minutes to rehearse

First Round: Soprano and Piano
W. A. Mozart, Mi tradì quell’alma ingrata (Don Giovanni)
C. M. von Weber, Leise leise (Der Freischutz)
G. Puccini, oh mio babbino caro (Gianni Schicchi)

First Round: String Orchestra
B. Bartók, Divertimento per archi
P. I. Tchaikovsky, Serenata per archi
The first round will be open to 30 competitors, each will have a maximum total time of 30 minutes to rehearse

Semifinal: Chamber Orchestra
B. Bartók, Rumanian Folk Dances
L. van Beethoven, Symphony 5, first movement
L. van Beethoven, Egmont Ouverture
The Semifinal will be open to maximum 10 competitors, each will have maximum time of 30 minutes to rehearse

Final: Symphony Orchestra

P.I. Tchaikovsky, Symphony n° 6 “Patetic” I movement

J. Brahms, Symphony n° 1 IV movement
Gruop C
C. Debussy, Prélude à l’après midi d’un faune
B. Bartók, Hungarian peasant songs
Mandatory piece for all the competitors
László Dubrovay, New piece (about 5 minutes)

The Final is open to n° 3 competitors, a group will be assigned to each and each will have 60 minutes rehearsal during which he/she will rehearse the piece/s of his/her group and the mandatory piece.
After the rehearsal there will be a public concert that is part of the competition, in this concert each competitor will conduct the piece of his/her group and the mandatory piece.
Concert dress is required.
The winner will be announced after the final concert, in the presence of the public.

The pieces will be drawn the evening before the day of the specific proof. The competitors are required to know all the pieces of the repertoire.

First classified: 450.000 Ft (ca €1.500,00 )
1 concert in 2016/2017 season of Budapest Symphony Orchestra MAV in Budapest (Hungary)
1 concert during 2016/2017 season of the Eszterházy Vigasságok in the hungarian Esterházy Castle (Hungary)
1 concert in 2016/2017 season of “I virtuosi italiani” orchestra in Verona (Italy)
1 concert in 2016/2017 season of Polish Baltic “F.Chopin” Philarmonic Orchestra in Danzic (Poland)
Contract proposal with Contempoars International Artists Agency
Official diploma

Second classified: 250.000 Ft (ca €800,00 )
1 concert in 2016/2017 at the Italian Cultural Center Musical Season with Budapest Symphony Orchestra MAV in Budapest (Hungary)

Third classified: 150.000 Ft (ca €500,00 )

To the Semifinalists will be given an official certificate of Semifinalists.
Those who will successfully pass the eliminatory phase will receive a participation certificate.

The last stages of the competition will be open to the public and there will be a representative of International Artists Agencies present.

M° Márton Rácz (Hungary), Artistic Director of Esterházy Vigasságok Festival

7. Registration
In order to register it is required to send the following documents:
filled and signed registration form
curriculum vitae
1 small picture ca 3 x 4 cm and 1 big picture chosen by the competitor (the pictures will be used for the promotion of the advanced stage of the competition)
receipt of the payment of participation fee of € 380,00. The payment can be done through bank transfer on the account

8. Media rights
The Competition is a Media Event and will be recorded for both Television and Radio.
The candidates will by submitting their application hand over all rights of the TV and radio- recordings to the Promoter, this includes all pictures taken on- and off stage.
The candidates will also by submitting their application give their permission and approval to the Promoter to use the candidates’ names and pictures in press releases.
The Promoter will expect the candidates to be available for interviews, photo-shoots and all other activities making the Competition attractive for the media audience.
