RICCARDO MUTI ITALIAN OPERA ACADEMY July, 23rd to August 5th 2016, Teatro Alighieri in Ravenna
“La traviata” for the second edition of the Riccardo Muti Italian Opera Academy
The application forms for the selection of the students (conductor, répétiteur or singer) have to be submitted within December, 31st 2015.
The attention towards the musical education of new generations has always been a fundamental point of the artistic activity of Riccardo Muti. The first edition of “his” Italian Opera Academy took place last summer in a climate of Renaissance workshops where the secrets of musical construction are passed on through hard study from the master to the student in a natural symbiosis, until the achievement of the final goal of interpretation.
Four young conductors and four répétiteurs just as young (selected among hundreds of applicants from all over the world), two vocal casts and a large audience of very attentive listeners. All of them gathered in the name of Falstaff at Teatro Alighieri to follow the lessons, suggestions, examples on the piano, orchestra rehearsals and the score analysis held by Riccardo Muti. At the end of this intense period of study, the audience saw the results of the first edition in a real gala concert during which the young conductors Vincenzo Milletarì, Vladimir Ovodok, Su-Han Yang and Erina Yashima went on the podium in front of the Cherubini Orchestra one after the other, introduced by their maestro.
After having taken part in the Academy, Erina Yashima flew to Chicago where she was selected among the finalists of the third edition of the Sir Georg Solti Conducting Apprenticeship. There, at the end of the final orchestra rehearsal with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, she was declared the winner by the panel of judges consisting of some of the first musicians of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s first sections, and representatives of the international music world, chaired by Riccardo Muti. This prestigious award will give her the possibility to work as Riccardo Muti’s assistant conductor for two years.
The immediate success of the Academy – many made requests for a second event already when participating in the ongoing edition – convinced Riccardo Muti to keep on with the project, broadening its horizons already in 2016. Once more, the location will be Teatro Alighieri in Ravenna (from July, 23rd to August, 5th) and the orchestra will be the Cherubini. This time, the title of the opera will be Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata.
There will also be an important innovation: the possibility to enter as students extended to the singers through the same selection process reserved to conductors and répétiteurs. Every application form, properly received, will be evaluated by an appointed examination board. Selected applicants will have access to the exams for each category in the presence of Riccardo Muti.
The call for applications regulating the process for the listeners’ subscription and the selection of conductors, répétiteurs and singers for the 2016 Academy is available on-line on: www.riccardomutimusic.com.
The application to the selection has to be submitted by December, 31st 2015.
The participation in the Academy as listeners is open to any enthusiast with no restriction.
For those who wish to subscribe as part of the audience, the deadline of December 31st is not valid.
Subscriptions will be accepted until seats are available.
Lower rate is provided for students of conservatories or musical institutes of equal level.
