Full-time, nine month, tenure track position. The University of South Dakota seeks a dynamic professional to direct the University Symphony Orchestra and teach additional classes including conducting, applied study (Clarinet, String Bass, Viola, or Oboe preferred) and instrumental techniques.

Excellence in teaching is expected — both in the classroom and in mentoring students outside the classroom. Other duties may include: supervising the annual orchestra festival, serving on graduate committees, supervising independent study projects as appropriate to appointee’s qualifications, and additional assignments to meet departmental needs. As part of a normal workload you may be asked to teach online courses.

Participation in Inclusive Excellence by undertaking outreach to diverse communities (multicultural student organizations, Native American community,GLBTIQ community, Latino community, veterans, women, etc.) on and off campus is encouraged.

All faculty members are expected to be active in recruitment and to be active in research/creative scholarship. Appointment begins August 22, 2016.

Doctorate in conducting, performance or music education required. ABD considered. Demonstrated excellence in teaching, performance and research/creative scholarship appropriate to rank required. Experience conducting symphony orchestra required. Experience teaching privately in the areas of clarinet, viola, string bass, or oboe desired.
