STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK AT FREDONIA

Graduate Assistant Conductor of Orchestras and Opera, while pursuing a

Master of Music performance degree at SUNY – Fredonia, one of the

premiere schools of music in the SUNY system. The School has 650

undergraduate majors, 45 full time faculty, excellent facilities and a strong

orchestral program. (www.fredonia.edu/som). As the only assistant

conductor, there is significant podium time with the 100-piece symphony

orchestra, and chamber orchestra, in rehearsal and concert. Candidates

for the degree would also assist with full opera productions and conduct

opera scenes. As Assistant Conductor, the student will also gain valuable

experience with many of the extra-musical activities with which conductors

and music directors are faced. These will include managing orchestra

personnel, overseeing librarians, running auditions, recruiting, and

teaching undergraduate classes, and conducting the repertory orchestra.

Assistance includes 9 credits of in-state grad tuition per semester for two

years plus stipend of $6800 annually.
