The 17th annual Varna International Conducting Workshop, June 10 – 21, 2016

in picturesque Bulgaria!

This highly-acclaimed workshop will include conducting in orchestra, choral-orchestral and opera. Conducting fellows and Associate Conductors will study Vivaldi’s Gloria and Schubert’s Mass in G, under the tutelage of our internationally recognized conducting faculty, Maestros Bruce Chamberlain, Director of Choral Activities at the University of Arizona and Dian Tchobanov, Music Director of the Plovdiv State Opera, Bulgaria. The workshop admits few conductors into the program and offers ample podium time!

Additionally, The Opera Academy Assistant Conducting Track will be offered, as part of the 5th Varna International Opera Academy ( This program is designed for conductors who are interested in opera conducting training. The appointed conducting assistants will receive training by the maestros in all stages of the elaborate process of opera production.

Participants are eligible to apply for the Conducting Award, which will be the prestigious position of Assistant Conductor to world-renowned conductor, Maestro Tchobanov, for a two week period during the 2016/2017 Plovdiv State Opera!
