Announces the following vacancy for the 2016-2017 season: Resident Conductor The CPO announces a valuable opportunity for an emerging conductor to gain experience with a major orchestra. The position will begin in the 2016-2017 season, with the possibility of renewal for the 2017- 2018 season. The Resident Conductor will conduct select CPO concerts and rehearsals throughout the season, and will work closely with CPO artistic and operations staff. He/she will be expected to attend rehearsals and concerts with the goal of observing conducting styles and techniques, and will also have the opportunity to work with the Calgary Philharmonic Chorus. The CPO is committed to assisting the Resident Conductor in the development of his/her conducting career, and his/her performance will be regularly adjudicated to provide constructive feedback. The Resident Conductor will work closely with the Manager of Education and Outreach on the programming and producing of Educational Concerts, and will assist in the design of the education and outreach activities of the CPO including those of individual musicians and small groups. He/she will have a significant role in promoting the CPO in the community, and will have the opportunity to lead workshops for the CPO’s corporate partners and other stakeholders. The Resident conductor will receive a salary of $40,000 CDN per annum and will be eligible for the CPO’s benefits package. The Resident Conductor reports to the Director of Artistic Planning of the CPO. Qualifications/Requirements: – Applicants must be Canadian citizens or Landed Immigrants – Excellent communication skills and the desire to connect with audiences – The Resident Conductor must reside in Calgary during the concert season throughout the term of the appointment – Demonstrated podium experience – Advanced knowledge of orchestral repertoire To apply, please provide: – Letter of interest addressed to the Search Committee – Curriculum vitae outlining citizenship, contact information, relevant professional or management website, information regarding educational background and professional activities, and a list of three professional references with contact information – A complete list of repertoire, including performance history and any upcoming professional conducting commitments – Two contrasting video clips, preferably sent as links, although DVDs will also be accepted. Deadlines and audition details: – Audition repertoire will include: Elgar: “Nimrod” from Enigma Variations; Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade (2nd movement); and Mozart: Overture to The Marriage of Figaro. – Applications must be received no later than February 2, 2016 to the attention of Heather Slater, Director of Artistic Planning, firstname.lastname@example.org. – Candidates who are selected as finalists will be notified by February 10, 2016 and will at that time be given the final repertoire list and details for the audition. – The audition process will include on-stage rehearsal time, an interview process and a programming exercise. – Live auditions for finalists will take place in Calgary on March 30 and 31, 2016, and interviews will take place on April 1, 2016, at Jack Singer Concert Hall in the Epcor Centre.
