MUSIC DIRECTOR SEARCH
We are currently searching for a new Music Director to start in September 2016 please see below for details.
The Southampton University Symphony Orchestra (SUSO) is widely recognised as one of the leading university orchestras in the UK. After 21 years, Robin Browning, is stepping down, we are seeking to appoint a dynamic and inspirational individual to lead the orchestra to even greater heights. SUSO performs four to seven concerts per year, as well as a foreign tour in the summer. Recent years have included Mahler’s 6th Symphony, Shostakovich’s 10th Symphony. The orchestra has an excellent outreach program with strong links to Southampton Music Hub and ‘Baby Proms’.
SUSO rehearses on a Wednesday evening between 7pm – 10pm in the Turner Sims Concert Hall, Southampton, with an occasional weekend day rehearsal leading up to the concert.
Auditions will take place on Wednesday the 16th of March 6.30pm – 10pm in Southampton with a short interview between 5pm and 6.30pm.
Audition repertoire will be selected from the following:
Romeo and Juliet Overture – Tchaikovsky
Symphony No. 2 – Rachmaninov
Scheherazade – Rimsky-Korsakov

1 to be based around a large scale work such as a Shostakovich Symphony
1 for a themed/family event e.g. film music
1 program to involve a concerto with suggested soloist.
