Job Summary/Basic Function Position Description:

CONCORDIA COLLEGE, MOORHEAD, MN seeks a DIRECTOR OF ORCHESTRALACTIVITIES, full-time, tenure-track, Assistant/Associate Professor . The position offers the opportunity for a talented conductor to lead an orchestra that has garnered a reputation for musical quality by performing at state, national, and international conferences and festivals.

Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will demonstrate the capacity to nurture and maintain a reputation of excellence as a conductor, musician, and educator; will display teaching excellence in both the ensemble and classroom settings within a liberal arts environment; will be responsible for the artistic leadership of the Concordia Orchestra including programming, rehearsing, performing, and recording; will collaborate on yearly projects with the Concordia choral ensembles (Christmas and Oratorio concerts); will coach the Sonitus Chamber Strings in rehearsal and performance; will coordinate with staff to plan the logistical details of all performances including international touring and the annual domestic tours of the Concordia Orchestra; will organize the annual student concerto competition; and will collaborate with the conductor of the Symphonia Orchestra.

The position requires a candidate that is a strong recruiter for both the music department and the college. The Director for Orchestral Activities will be expected to work closely with the Concordia Enrollment Office and the applied music faculty studios on all recruitment endeavors such as nurturing strong and vibrant relationships with school orchestra programs throughout the region; being responsible for the artistic leadership of the annual High School Honor Orchestra and String Orchestra Workshop; and collaborating with selected schools in an annual spotlight concert.

An additional teaching assignment may include courses in Instrumental Conducting, Music Education, courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, and/or departmental need. In support of the College’s ambitious goals for diversity and inclusion, the Music Department is interested in applicants who have had experience working effectively with diverse populations. A willingness to serve in a collegial manner within the department and across the college is valued.
