Southern Utah University invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Music/Director of Orchestral Activities. This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position with a desired start date of August 16, 2016. This is a one-year sabbatical replacement. Salary is commensurate with qualifications & experience; excellent benefits.

General Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Conduct the University Orchestra and String Ensemble
2. Teach Applied Strings (violin, viola, and/or cello), String Methods, String Literature, Conducting, and related courses
3. Other duties appropriate to the rank of assistant professor, i.e. recruiting, committee assignments, etc.


1. Masters Degree in music required, doctorate preferred.
2. Evidence of successful college level experience as an orchestral conductor and string teacher desired.
3. Exemplary performance skills as conductor and performer.

In accordance with Utah State Code 53B-1-110, appointment to this position is contingent upon the successful passing of a background check.
