Director of Orchestra – Eastern Washington University Cheney, Washington

The College of Arts, Letters & Education at Eastern Washington University invites applications for a Lecturer for Director of Orchestra in the Department of Music to begin mid-September 2016.

This position’s responsibilities include Director of Orchestra and teach Conducting, Orchestra and Opera and other courses as needed by the department.

Teaching Responsibilities, 41 credits,
Faculty Non-Teaching Responsibilities: 4 Credits Equivalent,
o Director of Orchestra
o EWU Orchestra Festival for High School Orchestras

The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with our Director of Bands in overseeing and developing our instrumental studies program. He or she will be expected to collaborate with instrumental faculty and successfully recruit students for our music program.

Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.

Required Qualifications:

DMA in Conducting

o One year higher education teaching experience
o Expertise and skills in directing the orchestra and in teaching applied and academic conducting courses
o Candidates must demonstrate interest, experience and/or ability in promoting cultural competency and/or diversity

Preferred Qualifications:

o One year professional conducting experience
