RNCM Conducting Masterclasses
The RNCM operates an extremely popular programme of short conducting courses open to all. These courses are led by Mark Heron in conjunction with a range of guest teachers and are aimed at young conductors who may be considering full time study; professional performers and educators for whom conducting is part of a wider portfolio of activities; and amateur musicians wishing to develop their skills.
RNCM Conducting Masterclasses
The RNCM is pleased to invite applications for its 2016-17 programme of external conducting masterclasses:
One day course: 25 November 2016
Two day course: 20 – 21 February 2017
Three day course: 12 – 14 May 2017
RNCM Conducting Course for Music Educators: A series of 3 workshops on 23 and 24 October 2016, 29 January 2017 and 26 February 2017.
Please see below for more information about each course.
These courses reflect the core belief that underpins all of the College’s world-class conducting programmes: conductors learn by conducting other musicians. All participants will conduct at least twice on each day, working with professional pianists, RNCM student ensembles, and with Manchester Camerata through an exciting new partnership.
Who is this course aimed at?
The conducting courses are firmly established as a leading international masterclass for young conductors and participants travel from as far afield as North America, Asia and all over Europe as well as the UK. Many use the course as an opportunity to check-out the RNCM prior to applying for the Masters or Junior Fellow programmes, but it is just as useful for conducting students and graduates looking for focused feedback from a range of experienced teachers. We are also delighted to receive applications from undergraduates who might be considering postgraduate conducting study, and professional musicians for whom conducting is part of a wider teaching or performing career.
Who are the courses led by?
The course is taught by RNCM Conducting Faculty members Mark Heron and Clark Rundell, plus guest teachers who in the past have included Mark Stringer (Professor of Conducting, University of Music & Performing Arts, Vienna), Mark Shanahan (Principal Guest Conductor, Netherlands Symphony Orchestra), Philippe Bach (Chief Conductor, Meiningen Opera), and Timothy Reynish (formerly Head of Conducting, RNCM).
All sessions are filmed, and footage made available online to the participants.
