Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will serve as Assistant Conductor of the Lamont Symphony Orchestra while pursuing either a Master of Music Degree, an Artist Diploma, or a Certificate in Conducting at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music, studying with Professor Lawrence Golan. The Assistant Conductor will conduct in a variety of settings including concert performances with the Lamont Symphony Orchestra (LSO), full orchestra rehearsals with the LSO, sectional rehearsals with the LSO, and rehearsals with the Lamont Opera Theatre. The student will also gain valuable hands-on, actual experience with many of the extra-musical activities with which conductors and music directors are faced. These experiences will include managing orchestra personnel, librarian activities, running auditions, recruiting, and teaching Basic Conducting classes.

Organization/Orchestra Description: The Lamont School of Music resides in the Newman Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Denver. This state-of-the-art facility has features that make it the envy of music schools around the world.

The Lamont Symphony Orchestra and conductor Lawrence Golan have won two Global Music Awards for their recording of Beethoven Symphony No. 7 and “Beethoven 7.1” on Albany Records, three Downbeat Magazine Awards for “Best College Symphony Orchestra”, and eight ASCAP Awards for “Innovative Programming of Contemporary Music”. The orchestra performs seven symphonic concerts and two operas each year.
