Instrumental Conducting/Composition – Muhlenberg College Allentown, Pennsylvania


The Department of Music at Muhlenberg College seeks an outstanding Composer and Conductor for a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor. The ideal candidate would be an effective, dedicated teacher with a record of success in composition, instrumental conducting and music theory instruction.

We are a liberal arts college with a strong tradition of excellence in teaching supported by scholarship; thus a successful record of related teaching is expected. This is a full-time position with a teaching load equivalent of three courses per semester.

A completed doctorate degree in composition, significant experience in conducting, and full-time college teaching experience are preferred. Responsibilities will include: teaching lessons or classes in composition and the music theory sequence, conducting one large instrumental ensemble and coordinating the instrumental area. The position offers the opportunity to take full advantage of our our state-of-the art electronic music studio.

Allentown is a city of c. nearly 200,000 located in the heart of the picturesque Lehigh Valley. It has a vibrant arts scene that is enriched by short commutes to both Philadelphia (75 minutes) and New York City (90 minutes).
